In 2003, the R/V Searcher served as the expedition vessel for the filming of Jean-Michel Cousteau's Voyage to Kure, carrying a team of 20 divers, scientists, filmmakers, and crew on a six-week journey through the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands to remote Kure Atoll, the northernmost coral atoll in the Hawaiian Archipelago.

Along the way, the expedition explored some of the world's most pristine reefs, documented extraordinary marine life, and visited researchers working to protect these fragile ecosystems. Using cutting-edge diving and filmmaking technology, the team shared the beauty and ecological importance of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands with audiences around the world.

The documentary helped build public awareness of this remarkable region and contributed to the momentum that led to the creation of Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, then the largest marine protected area in the world.
